In 1998, Ezidebit founder Michael Dempsey was just another frustrated small business owner searching for a simple solution to his accounting woes. He was constantly juggling payments at the two childcare centres he ran, constantly chasing parents for fees. "I was on the phone every night, asking when people were going to pay me," he said. At the time, direct debit was the domain of large institutions with in-house finance teams and custom payment programs. So, Michael decided to create a system designed especially for small businesses.
