This unit introduces you to the pathophysiology, diagnosis, treatment and management of pain, oncology, palliative and end of life care. The psychosocial considerations and decision-making processes related to each of these topics will also be discussed. The role of the nurses, midwives and the interprofessional team will be considered in view of caring for the patient as they are supported through the journey. Using case-based learning and the clinical reasoning cycle you will reflect on your own values about health, illness, dying and death. This will give you the opportunity to explore a person and family-centred approach to pain, oncology, palliative and end of life care.
