Database Analyst (Performance Reporting)
Job Description
Job Summary:
The Performance Reporting team have a pipeline of process enhancements they are looking to work through in the coming years. The team are in the early stages of an initial automation project which requires the skill of an experienced Database Analyst to work very closely with the Data Engineering team to implement a solution to replace several manual reporting processes, leveraging off existing SQL databases. Following the completion of this initial project, the new processes will need to be monitored, maintained, and extended as the team’s responsibilities evolve. In addition, the team run several SQL queries which require troubleshooting and improvement.
For this role, you will have relevant database analysis experience in the performance/client reporting space, have excellent communication skills to encourage positive relationships and a strong attention to detail. With a technical mind and a good working attitude, you will be able to work to deadlines confidently and manage busier periods with ease.
Job Requirement
Key Responsibilities:
- Build SQL queries against an existing database schema to fulfil requirements of Client Reporting team
- Troubleshoot existing SQL queries, trace query results to resolve data problems
- Build and improve upon automation of Client Reporting business processes, using SQL and
Python
- Build APIs in Python to support reporting process automation
Relationships:
Reports to: Head of Data Engineering & Strategy with a dotted line to the Performance Reporting Team Leader.
Internal Relationships: Working closely with the Data Engineering team and liaising with Distribution, Operations team members and various Magellan staff.
External Relationships: Reporting system vendor (FactSet), administrators, data and research houses.
Qualifications and technical experience:
• A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent is required, post-grad qualifications preferred
• Build SQL queries against an existing database schema to fulfil requirements of the
Performance Reporting team
• Troubleshoot existing SQL queries, trace query results to resolve data problems
• Build and improve upon automation of Performance Reporting business processes, using SQL
and Python
• Build APIs in Python to support reporting process automation
Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
• Experience with FactSet’s Vermilion Reporting Suite (VRS) highly regarded
• Excellent written and communication skills
• Strong attention to detail
• Quick to understand new concepts
• Strong time management and project management skills with the ability to manage multiple deliverables at once
• Effectively manage and engage with personnel of all levels across the firm, including setting expectations, establishing timelines, communicating effectively, and reacting to urgent/time sensitive requests
• The ability to work autonomously

The Performance Reporting team are responsible for the accurate & timely delivery of reporting for all Funds and institutional mandates on a monthly and quarterly basis, updating and maintaining accurate information in research house and global databases and providing support to the investment and distribution teams by responding to ad hoc data requests and providing data for presentations and marketing materials.
