About the role:
This role is absolutely critical to the success of the Connected Workplaces division and the product teams who manage the largest product in our payroll portfolio today: Australian Payroll. Our software provides a meaningful connection point between employers and employees, and this role is essential for interpreting the complexities of payroll rules so that they can be translated into beautiful experiences, making it simple for our customers to pay their employees correctly and with confidence.
You’ll apply subject matter expertise to enable Xero to create customer delight and market opportunity from legislative needs, making award interpretation simple, seamless and smarter.
As a key member of the Product Management group you’ll ensure alignment of our products globally, influencing culture and supporting a sense of ‘one team’ across all related products working with Australian Payroll customers.
Job Requirement
What you'll do:
Be the key subject matter expert for Australian Payroll. Apply your broad understanding of Single Touch Payroll, national employment standards, small business payroll workflows, business rules, customer needs and regulatory requirements to support the product development process. Interpret and translate new regulatory obligations into digestible recommendations that product teams can consider, prioritise and create effective requirements to help build and maintain national employment standards requirements within Xero Payroll. Develop an expert understanding of Single Touch Payroll and the changing payroll and superannuation regulatory environment and develop a process to integrate it into appropriate products and workflows. Apply subject matter expertise to support Customer Support, Comms and other teams to ensure that customer facing incidents are remediated in an accurate, efficient and fully compliant way. Provide ongoing assessment of our product to ensure that our product and small business customers remain compliant with relevant rules, legislation and industry best practices. Work closely and collaboratively with other subject matter experts from across the business, and externally, such as Risk and Compliance, Legal, Government Relations and Privacy on shared projects and content.

What you'll bring with you:
Relevant Bachelor’s degree or equivalent Qualified accountant, bookkeeper or payroll professional and current member of a professional body or payroll association A strong communicator who can translate complex regulatory information into clear and simple recommendations for diverse audiences such as product and technology leadership teams, business analysts and developers. An eye for detail and superb analytical & research skills. You take a methodical approach to your work. A growth mindset and thirst for learning Confident and accurate decision making skills when working on significant and specialist issues Thrive on managing your own time and approach to work, with a ruthless prioritisation of time and projects, a strong results & delivery attitude and equally happy with independent vs team based work. 5+ years working in the Australian payroll industry. 3+ years as a technical payroll analyst or Awards specialist in Australia. 2+ years working with Single Touch Payroll in Australia. A solid working knowledge and demonstrated expertise of the Australian payroll industry and related payroll, tax and superannuation legislation from Fairwork Australia and ATO. Proven success managing compliance assessments especially in the payroll and superannuation space. Experience collaborating with diverse stakeholder groups.
