The world of work is rapidly transforming and workers are increasingly engaged under a variety of work arrangements beyond the employment contract. A greater understanding of regulation that applies at work not only promotes compliance and improved risk management but enables enterprises to explore options to diversify and innovate work structures. Understanding the regulation that applies to modern workplaces equips managers, decision-makers and board members to address statutory duties and exposure to personal liability. It also empowers individuals to negotiate favourable conditions at work and manage the implications of contractual and work arrangements. This unit introduces you to the regulation that applies in modern workplaces and examines regulatory compliance and ethical challenges that arise in relation to work and workers. You will gain an understanding of the key concepts in relation to the regulation of work and examine debates that shape work regulation. The unit is practically focused: real-world case studies are used to illustrate the practical, strategic and ethical implications that arise from the regulatory concepts discussed; and novel regulatory innovations, which have been designed to respond to the rapidly changing world of work, are critically explored.
