This unit will introduce the concept of data management in an organisation through relational database technology. Theoretical foundation of relational model, analysis and design, implementation of relational database using SQL will be covered.
This unit has a requirement of 1-2 hours per week of asynchronous learning. Minimum total expected workload to achieve the learning outcomes for this unit is 144 hours per semester typically comprising a mixture of online and face to face learning activities and independent study. Independent study includes associated reading and self-directed online study in preparation for scheduled activities. The unit requires on average three/four hours of scheduled activities per week.
Implement a relational database based on a sound database design;
Develop a sound relational database design;
Apply the theories of the relational database model;
Manage data that meets user requirements, including queries and transactions;
Contrast the differences between non-relational database models and the relational database model.
