Caring for children and young people in nursing practice

This unit introduces you to a range of concepts related to the care of children and young people in a variety of clinical and community settings. You will explore the key differences in the, anatomy, physiology, growth and development that distinguish the care of children and young people from adults. Further to this you will also gain a deeper understanding of the impact of disability, culture and diversity when caring for the child or young person. You will then utilise this knowledge as a foundation on which to build your understanding of the impact of these differences on clinical assessment and communication. You will apply the principles of family centred care to communication and support, and investigate the role of the nurse in building partnerships to meet the needs of children, young people and their caregivers.
