Why are multi-file changes far riskier than single-file ones?

When changing an API contract, why must I update layer by layer?

When the contract shifts, type definitions, service calls, and UI rendering must all sync. Asking AI to change all three at once looks fast but reviewers can't tell which layer broke first — types or services? Walk the order type → service → UI, typecheck after each layer before moving on.
