Understand the certification

Before you register
What does the CompTIA Server+ (SK0-004) exam cover?
SK0-004 tests the full lifecycle of server hardware, software, and operations management. Key domains include: Server Architecture (18%), Server Administration (30%), Security (20%), and Troubleshooting (32%). Troubleshooting has the highest weight, focusing on hardware fault diagnosis, storage issue resolution, and network connectivity troubleshooting.
What is the difference between SK0-004 and SK0-005? Which should I take?
SK0-004 is the older version of Server+, while SK0-005 is the current latest version. SK0-005 adds modern data center technologies including cloud computing, virtualization, and containerization. If your testing center still offers SK0-004, both versions yield the same certification. It is recommended to prioritize the latest version SK0-005.
What prerequisites are needed for Server+?
CompTIA A+ equivalent IT foundational knowledge and 18-24 months of server administration hands-on experience is recommended. You should understand RAID configuration, server virtualization (VMware/Hyper-V), Active Directory basics, and fundamental networking concepts (DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP).
Does Server+ certification require renewal?
CompTIA Server+ certification is valid for life once earned and does not require renewal or continuing education credits. This differs from CompTIA certifications like Security+ and Network+ that require renewal every three years, making it a one-time investment with lifelong benefits.
How does Server+ certification help career development?
Server+ certification targets data center technicians, server administrators, and systems engineers. It holds DoD 8570 approval and is widely recognized in government and defense sectors. Certified professionals typically work as server administrators, data center technicians, or systems engineers with strong employment competitiveness.
